Bianca Beneduci Assad - Artist Stories

Like many other visual artists it started when I was very young. I can't remember exactly when, but I do know that I spent my school years drawing in my notebooks rather than taking notes. And drawing on my homework. My teachers weren't very happy about that.

Favorite thing about your craft?

I love drawing sassy things and making people laugh with my work. But most of all, if I manage to communicate something that feels real to me that’s a great feeling! It’s definitely something I’m trying to focus more on these days.

Challenges you faced:

Burnouts and mental health dips. It’s also difficult when you don’t feel inspired, or you start comparing your work to everyone else. But I’m learning to not take myself too seriously, and prioritize a healthy work life balance.

Biggest moment:

In my first year out of animation school I won a ten thousand dollars prize for my student film. That was great! I was young and insecure and it felt like such a boost! A lovely way to start my career.

Advice:

This is something I tell all my friends: Don’t attach your self worth to your work or productivity. Also, make sure you rest and spend plenty of time with the people you love.

Who has helped you on this journey, that you would like to thank?

I have some great friends that help me and inspire me constantly. Some of them regularly get whatsapp messages from me with my sketches and questions. I really appreciate that kind of peer support. They know who they are, and I’m super grateful for them.
